# How AI receipt extraction works

When you add a receipt, Stacko reads it and fills in the fields for you: vendor, date, amount, category, payment method, and whether it's a business or personal expense.

**How it helps**

You skip manual data entry. A photo becomes a structured record in seconds.

**Always review before saving**

Extraction is a starting point, not the final word. Check each field against the receipt and fix anything that's off before you tap **Save** — every field is editable, and you can edit a saved receipt later too.

**Foreign receipts**

Stacko detects the receipt's country. On a US or other non-Canadian receipt it won't invent Canadian GST/HST/PST — it keeps the amounts as printed.

**Good to know**

- Clear, flat, well-lit photos extract best; blurry or crumpled receipts are likelier to need a correction.
- If a field comes out wrong, just fix it — your saved receipt is what counts.
