How AI receipt extraction works
Updated June 21, 2026 ยท Stacko team
When you add a receipt, Stacko reads it and fills in the fields for you: vendor, date, amount, category, payment method, and whether it's a business or personal expense.
How it helps
You skip manual data entry. A photo becomes a structured record in seconds.
Always review before saving
Extraction is a starting point, not the final word. Check each field against the receipt and fix anything that's off before you tap Save โ every field is editable, and you can edit a saved receipt later too.
Foreign receipts
Stacko detects the receipt's country. On a US or other non-Canadian receipt it won't invent Canadian GST/HST/PST โ it keeps the amounts as printed.
Good to know
- Clear, flat, well-lit photos extract best; blurry or crumpled receipts are likelier to need a correction.
- If a field comes out wrong, just fix it โ your saved receipt is what counts.
The boundary
Extraction is a starting point you review. Stacko doesn't guarantee accuracy or make tax decisions.
