Connect Stacko to your AI assistant

Stacko has a built-in MCP server — the open standard AI assistants use to work with your tools. Connect it once and your assistant can search receipts, summarize spending, and (if writes are enabled for your plan) add or tag receipts for you, all under your own login.

What you need

• A Stacko plan with AI-client access (shown as Read tools enabled on the Settings → AI tab).
• An MCP-compatible assistant: Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, and most others that support "connectors" or "MCP servers."
• Your personal MCP server URL from Settings → AI → Copy URL.

Connect Claude

1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector. 2. Paste your Stacko MCP server URL. 3. Claude opens a Stacko sign-in — log in with your normal Stacko account. That login (not Claude) decides what the assistant can access. 4. Ask something real: *"What did I spend on software subscriptions this year?"*

Connect ChatGPT

Custom MCP connectors in ChatGPT require Developer mode (menus vary by plan and version — see [OpenAI's guide](https://help.openai.com/en/articles/12584461-developer-mode-and-mcp-apps-in-chatgpt) for the current steps):

1. In ChatGPT's settings, open Apps → Advanced settings and turn on Developer mode. On Business/Enterprise workspaces, an admin enables custom connectors instead. 2. Add a new connector/app and paste your Stacko MCP server URL. 3. Complete the Stacko sign-in when prompted.

Connect Cursor (or another MCP client)

1. Open your client's MCP configuration. 2. Add Stacko as a remote MCP server using your URL. 3. Sign in to Stacko when the client starts the connection.

What the assistant can and can't do

• Reads: search and summarize your receipts, expenses, deductions, and tags.
• Writes (only if your plan shows Writes enabled): create, update, tag, or delete receipts — the same actions you could take in the app, recorded the same way.
• Never: move money, see bank credentials, or reach another user's data.
• Ending access: the assistant's access is granted through its own Stacko sign-in and expires on that session's schedule — signing out of the Stacko app does not immediately cut off an assistant that is already connected. To stop access right away, disconnect the client under Settings → AI → Connected AI clients (takes effect within about a minute), or remove the Stacko connector in the AI client. Reconnecting simply re-runs the sign-in.

If it doesn't connect

• Confirm the AI tab shows Read tools enabled — if not, your current plan doesn't include AI-client access.
• Re-copy the URL; it must be pasted exactly.
• Remove the Stacko connector in the assistant and connect it again to refresh the login.
• Check Settings → AI → Connected AI clients — a disconnected client stays blocked until you approve it again.
